Name: Rick Kerkhof
Age: 18
Location: The Netherlands
Quote: "Meh."
Position: Support -> Customizer

Do you have pets?
Yep, two dogs and a cat.

What is your favorite color?
Probably blue.

What kind of music do you like?
I really like all styles of music depending on my mood; one moment I can listen to dubstep and switch to rock an hour later. :P

What do you do on your free time besides spending time on SMF?
High school likes to hit me with assignments.

What are your goals/dreams in life?
To become a good coder, and to help people.

What got you involved in SMF?
I joined a forum that ran SMF. It was the 2.0 RC2 time back then. I got interested in how the software worked and how it was made, so I decided to research that a bit. I first got to SMFForFree, but it lacked features. That's how I got to the real SMF :P

Who do you admire? Why?
I admire people who are willing to aid others.

Are you into sports?  If so which ones?
Nope, but I really should. :P

What is your dream job?
Astronaut. But that's definitely not going to happen :D

What was your first screenname?
Yoshi2889. Long story, don't ask.

Do you have any piercings?
Nope, I think they look stupid.

Are you a lefty/righty or ambidextrous?
Lefty and I'm proud of it :)

Do you have any tattoo's?  If not do you wish/plan to get one?
No and no.

Do you have any siblings?  If so, how many of each?
Nope, it's nice and peaceful :)

What is your favorite website?
I visit so many websites nowadays that I can't really pick a single favourite one.

Do you play computer games?  If so, which ones?
Oh man, I own around 100 games on Steam. And that doesn't even include the games for Wii U and DS.

Do you play video game consoles?  Which ones?
I own a Wii U and love playing on it. Should also finish some games on DS but it's so small and pixel-y... :P

Are you married or planing to get married?
Not married, and not yet interested in marrying :D

If so do you have any kids?
No. I'm 18 ???

How many kids?
None.

How many languages do you speak?  If so which ones?
I can read (and write some) of Dutch, English, French, Latin, Greek and German. That's 6.
Speaking only English and Dutch, really.

Do you drink?
Usually, no. When I do though I get drunk way too easily (and always tip over). :P

Do you smoke?
No. My parents smoke though so I might, indirectly.

Did you play hookey from class?
My parents were actually fairly generous with this; they'd write notes that I couldn't participate in PE class for example, just because I didn't feel like it. :P But I didn't just skip class without giving a reason, though.

Do you have a license?
I do, actually. Brace yourselves >:D

Do you own a car?
No. I prefer stealing my parents' car O:) It's cheaper for me, too. :P

Have you ever been stopped for speeding?
Nope. Not yet, at least.

Do you obtain a good amount of sleep daily?
I have to take extra melatonin to get any sleep. If I take it around 10PM, I fall asleep at around 2AM. Wouldn't say I sleep well usually :(

How do you sleep?
No idea, I always wake up with my bed looking like a war happened.

Have you ever been on an airplane?
Yup. Multiple times. First time to Turkey, then on a school trip to Rome, and a family trip to London.

Have you ever broken a bone?
Yes, both legs together one time. Quite annoying, really.

Do you wear jewelry?  If so what jewelry do you wear?
Except for my watch not really.

How do you dress?
Usually just jeans and a t-shirt. I'm way too lazy to dress properly.

How many keys are on your keyring?
Bike, locker, gate, home... That makes 4 :)

What time do you go to bed?  What time do you wake up?
Weekend around 2:00 and up around 10:00.
Normally 22:00 and up at 7:15.

What's the freakiest thing you have done?
I do so many weird things on a daily basis that it's hard to pick a single weirdest/freakiest thing.

Do you live alone?
Nope, I live with my parents.

How many hours a day do you spend in the computer?
I don't spend time in a computer ;) I'd love for my brain to be poured in one though, eventually.
I spend a lot of time using computers though. Too much, maybe O:)

How many hours a day do you spend in SMF?
Depends on how much work there is to do :) I usually spend time on SMF in the weekends though because all other days school requires my attention.

What is your favorite beverage - coffee, tea, soda, beer, other?
Probably Coca Cola and Fanta.

What do you hate?
I'd probably be able to write an essay about the things I hate. The thing that fires me up the most probably is modern society though.

What do you love?
My family and friends. And SMF of course :P

What is your hair color?
Dark blond? I guess... Maybe brown.

How tall are you?
1.96 metres. Google thinks that's 77.1654 inches.

How much do you weigh?
Uh, too much. Don't remember O:)

What's the feature on SMF you can't live without?
As an administrator?
Admin Panel, lol.

As an end user?
Unread replies, I'll definitely die without that.

As a modder?
Integration hooks!

What gadgets do you own?
My life pretty much consists out of gadgets :P Geekiest thing though is probably a smartwatch (Moto 360 2nd Gen). Also the usual stuff, a tablet, laptop, desktop, ..., you name it. (help, I'm a nerd)

Possible that I didn't fill in any age, though, because I believe I filled it in later on.

AJAX isn't a language. It's part of Javascript.

Well, if we start to count on that; we'd have to say then;

1- HTML is not a programming language; as refered in its name, its just a mark-up language.
2- JavaScript is not a programming language either, again as refered in name, its a scripting language
3- CSS is not a programming language either; see the name again.. :)
4- AJAX is definitly not a language, it's better called a set of JS methods and libraries.

Accordingly the only programming language counted in the list is PHP; besides it's being counted in scripting languages at some places.

Whatever, I guess our young friend has a long way to go; but being eager and having enough opportunities he's getting fast to where he likes. Still worth to appreciate though.

Arantor on May 12, 2012, 08:07:26 AM said
Being a scripting language doesn't stop it being a programming language provided it means the criteria for being a programming language, which ultimately comes down to 'does it have variables, can it jump around and can it create loop conditions' and both JS and PHP satisfy.

Decrying it as a scripting language instead of a programming language is like trying to argue that a truck is not a vehicle, because your idea of a vehicle is a car.

The definition of a scripting language really comes down to the fact that it is interpreted not compiled, but it doesn't prevent either from being actual programming languages. Heck, you can actually write a web*server* in JavaScript.

Elmacik on May 12, 2012, 08:41:48 AM said
Arantor, you are very fast on objection. So fast that you are replying without carefully reading. :)

I said "if we start to count on that".. I don't personally think JS is not a programming language. Furthermore, its being a programming language doesn't affect others being not.

I'm very fast to tell people when they are wrong. JS is in any way you care to slice it, a programming language.

There are people who have written complete PC emulators in JavaScript (capable of running Linux in the browser and nothing else), so no matter how much you think it isn't, it is a programming language.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript

JavaScript (sometimes abbreviated JS) is a prototype-based scripting language that is dynamic, weakly typed, general purpose programming language and has first-class functions. It is a multi-paradigm language, supporting object-oriented,[5] imperative, and functional[1][6] programming styles.

I'll have it checked next week, I'm thinking my memory is damaged (random memory-heavy apps keep crashing too). I need it too much right now.

By reinstalling drivers some occasions have stopped and sometimes the thing runs really stable but it's annoying when it's unstable.

The worst I had was a computer that would always reboot when it got a little bit hot. The problem with it was that before I had finished putting the computer together all the way, my siblings decided to use it. Will it had no heat sink on the CPU.   >:(

Well the one dog is a cross between a labrador and a border collie as we call it, he's plain black, and I don't know about the cat and the other dog, but the cat is black and white, the other dog is brown with white and black tints. The profile picture of facebook is the brown dog, and I have photo's of our cat and the black dog too, so check out my facebook.

I was in a coma for two months after a car decided to knock me off my motorbike.

Oddly enough, I was doing about 20mph at the time. This, on a bike that could go from 0 mph to 60 mph(96kph) in 1.3 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_TuoMWklyI&feature=related

Speed's a funny thing, though, Yosh.

When I use to ski, I suspect that I must've gone over 100kph, a few times.

It was phun, rather than being scary.

Elmacik on July 02, 2012, 06:53:09 AM said
Depends on the vehicle you are using. Because on some cars, it's fun and a lot comfortable to go over 200 kmh, but on some others, if you speed over 100 kmh, you will think that it's gonna blow to the space.

I don't think it is going to explode, I just have an odd feeling with it.

kat on July 02, 2012, 06:57:48 AM said
I prefer to FEEL the speed I'm doing. I feel much safer, then.

In many ways, I think it's bad that you can drive a car, now, without having to do bikes, first, like you used to.

Bikes give you a better feel for just how bloody dangerous the roads really are and car-drivers are somewhat cosseted, from that.

Elmacik on July 02, 2012, 07:02:52 AM said
No, I don't mean the supposition of explosion. It's very uncomfortable, insecure and weird to speed with some vehicles. That is; I can speed over 200 kmh and enjoy it, but on some cars, if you speed over 100 kmh, it will make you feel like you are at mach 3 speed; so insecure and uncomfortable; therefore scary like it will get scattered so fast.

kat on July 02, 2012, 07:06:01 AM said
Scary is good.

It's supposed to be like that because speed IS dangerous.

As I said, I spent two months in a coma. I actually died, at one point.

Speed might be fun, yes. But, it does kill.

Elmacik on July 02, 2012, 07:28:08 AM said
Yeah couldn't agree more. But I still insist on saying being how much scary depends on the vehicle you are driving.

Marcus Forsberg on July 02, 2012, 07:31:34 AM said
I still find myself terrified of driving my own scooter since I hurt my leg and arm a year ago. And that only reaches 45km/h. :P Riding on the back of my friend's moped when he was driving in over 90km/h however... that was great fun! And greatly idiotic, too.

Yes, you're right.

What I'm contending, is that having speed without "scary", is what's killing people.

If going fast makes you scared, as it should, you wouldn't do it.

Arantor on July 02, 2012, 11:37:05 AM said
Speed itself doesn't kill, it's the rapidity of stopping suddenly that kills ;)

But when people are 'comfortable' with being very very fast and there is familiarity with it, familiarity breeds contempt, and people who have contempt for something tend not to give it the healthy respect it deserves...

It's not like our car doesn't feel uncomfortable, I just do not feel secure in *any* car. That's just me. It's not scary as "Oooooh that's freaky" but more like "HOLY CRAP I'M GONNA TURN ROUND WITH THIS THING", with me.

Elmacik on July 02, 2012, 12:27:25 PM said

Biggest app I wrote....Hmm, must be a replacement notepad. Notepad in Windows sucks as it is, so I decided to write my own :P

How about sharing the exe file with us? :)

wanna see your software ;)
It was waaaay back when I was noob, don't look at the way I wrote stuff :P

Too bad I don't have the source anymore, maybe you can extract it from the EXE.

That was a pretty good software :)

Don't be ashamed, everyone was noob once :D

Don't be ashamed, if I still had access to most of my old code I wouldn't mind sharing most of it. Sometimes it surprises me with code I written a few years back. Sometimes your young self can re-teach your older self some things.
I'm not ashamed of the code I wrote; more ashamed of my behavior :P

No lolz, why would I? If your virus scanner is reporting it as a false positive (as mine did) just ignore that.

My behavior back in the days was horrible, to say the least.
