Download Mirrors Information Page

As previously announced we have setup a mirror network.  A big reason for doing this is so that our members can still download the packages should our site go down.  But that doesn't help if the users don't have any way of knowing where the mirrors are.  So a simple HTML file was created that has links directly to the packages on the mirrors.

You may copy the information or you can just copy the entire HTML output and place it on your site.  For this reason the page uses simple markup with no external dependencies.  You are free to change the markup and/or styling all you'd like.  Our goal is to have this information scattered throughout the internet so that if we go down the users can easily find a backup link.

As mentioned in the announcement, we are currently waiting on the second mirror to come online.  We also excluded the SMF server from the list as if it is down then linking to it won't be of much help.

We ask that if you do make a copy of the information that you update it periodically.  At the very least when new versions are released.

For those who are wondering:  The page uses the same information provided in http://www.simplemachines.org/smf/mirrors.xml with the exception of the language files.  We are still considering whether or not to put the language packages on the mirrors page.

You know I have to say I love the way the mirrors are handled much better then source forge and others. Keep up the good work and thank you to the mirror providers.

The mirrors.xml file is either missing or doesn't have read permissions currently... can someone check?

Welcome to SMF, dest. Thanks for reporting this. I've bugtracked so hopefully the relevant people will soon fix it :)

Why not write a neat PHP script that others can upload to the server, CHMOD 777 a folder, and how the script download the updated files each time they get refreshed?

Birger :)

Have you seen the webinstall script?

Yeah, but I ment as in download the mirror files. Not the webinstall. I have no desire to install SMF, just mirror it.

Currently our license doesn't allow redistribution. However if the license got changed in this regard I'm sure we could come up with something like this :)

Actually, SMF's license disallows redistributions without written permission. Any inquiries to this end can be sent to [email protected].

Is there some sort of XML script which can be used to get the mirrors?

H on June 01, 2008, 08:36:53 AM said
Currently there is only one mirror outside of simplemachines.org.

Information is in the XML file in the first post :)
