Another big change for SMF 2.0 Beta 2
January 13, 2008, 05:21:05 PM Posted by Thantos on January 13, 2008, 05:21:05 PM in Another big change for SMF 2.0 Beta 2 | 51 CommentsEarlier today the devs got together online and had us a nice hour long chat. One of the things we discussed was the $smfFunc variable. In SMF 1.1 we have the $func variable. However, the name could easily conflict with other software so we decided to change the name to $smfFunc which it was from the Alpha version through to Beta 1.
Without giving away our plans for world domination, it was decided that the name didn't fit with out long term plans as it ties it to the forum. So we changed the name to $smcFunc. Now what does SMC stand for? I guess you'll just have to wait and find out later
It was decided that if we were going to change the name that now really is a good time to do it as we've already made one change that touches each query and it would be easier on our mod authors if we made all such sweeping changes at once and then let things settle down.
For change itself is easy to make as you can just do a find/replace for it so we hope that it won't be too much work.

They only know the goal, they don't know the plan
but if they kbow the goal then they now get there before us ... we will now need to change it to the cosmos
To me SMC stands for "sweet merciful crap" which is a phrase said by Homer Simpson, which was later used by a user on The No Homer's Club a forum I frequently visit for his username.
Is that it?

Simple Machines Community?
You're planning to make a CMS out of the board system, I'm guessing?
Not that it would be a bad idea, of course...

Supreme Magic Casting. Am I right?
I just noticed that the member colour ledgend has been added as a default feature of 2.0? or maybe the mod was just installed?
Default feature since 2.0 Beta 1.
Not seeing a color legend on my website. How does one activate it?
Admin -> Configuration -> Current Theme -> Check "Show group key on board index"
Thanks!
Quote from: Gazmanafc on January 16, 2008, 12:47:10 PMHeh that's actually been there since the early early alpha stages.
Default feature since 2.0 Beta 1.
True. But they didnt know that. I initially had it on live when I upgraded in May, and that was alpha. so yeah.

I like the Simple Machines Core idea, sounds good and its plausable
its more about what it means as opposed to what it stands for. But we can't say anything on that right now
Quote from: Atomic Blaze on January 22, 2008, 04:31:56 PMI've been thinking about it a lot, and now I'm sure it's Sarah Michelle Cellar.

Quote from: Thantos on January 22, 2008, 06:06:52 PMOh, sorry. Strike that, then.

It's not Sarah Michelle Cellar. I never said that. You never read that. You're sleepy. (Not you, SleePy.) You're going to bed. Tomorrow, you'll think SMC stands for Simple Machines Core-munity.
Sacrificed Manly Corn - for everytime the smcfunc is called, some corn is taken from a smaller farmer and sacrificed in a manly form; that makes sense, right?
Then that must be worth an entire field considering how many times $smcFunc is called in there.

Silly person, we all know that SMC stands for SMC: My Choice - It's kind of like how PHP stands for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor
no prize, especially since you're wrong :p

So whats up with RC1? Surely most of the bugs are found by now in Beta 4 arn't they?
It'll be out once it is in the position to be. I doubt anyone will make any promises here.
Quote from: Powerbob on October 10, 2008, 09:30:16 AMFinding them is only about 1/4 of the problem

Ya, the other 3/4 is split up in this way:
1/8: "How the hell did that happen?"
3/16: "I'm tired."
1/32: "Might as well get to work on this..."
2/8: "Is there anything to eat around here?"
1/32: Find the cause.
2/16: Fix the cause.
('tis a joke, we appreciate your hard work )

well you dont want a bug fixed causing 3 more, each fix has to be tested.
