Well, I work in the IT department of London insurance broker... just me, my boss and Hayley - who has just joined us - and we look after 140 users.
I love the buzz that coding in PHP gives and I'm lucky enough to be allowed to play with it at work. Although I am no where near up to the same standard as the guys here - I still get to write applications for our intranet. My current development project is a work flow and insurance tracking system which we need for FSA compliance reasons.

Well not freaky - but it freaked me out.
Do to the impact my website has had on patients in the UK - a government regulation authority(hfea.gov.uk) approached and asked me if I would like to do a speech/presentation at there annual conference. I accepted.
I was real nervous at first because almost every UK clinic/hospital director/executive was there(over 500 of them) and my speech was in effect telling them that they should not be afraid of educating patients or indeed hide things from them. Patients are now consumers and as such they should be empowered to make a more informed decision on their health care.
We have too many doctors in private practices telling people they need this done, or that done - and no one to question them.
